Installation Instructions

Effortlessly Removing and Installing Batteries on Vehicles
1. It is a professional touch to inform customers that while every effort is made to retain memory settings, there is a possibility of losing them. This sets the right expectations and showcases transparency.
2. Ensure the hand-brake is securely applied and that the car is either in neutral or park. Shut off all electrical devices and remove the ignition key from the vehicle. Important: On certain models, the doors may lock when the battery is disconnected, therefore, removing the key is crucial. Deactivate any alarms that weren't installed by the factory.
3. Verify the functionality of the cigar lighter. If it's non-functional, switch the ignition key to the auxiliary position. Install a reliable Computer Memory Saver (CMS) to protect memory settings.
4. Begin by disconnecting the earth-connector, generally the negative on modern vehicles. Be aware that this might cause a loss of memory settings; consult the vehicle's handbook for guidance.
5. Next, disconnect the live-connector. With a CMS in use, the connector remains live even when disconnected. To avoid short circuits, cover the connector with an insulator, such as a rubber glove.
6. Carefully remove the hold-down clamps to free the battery.

Preparing a Battery for Fitting
1. Confirm the battery's polarity matches that of the vehicle, ensuring seamless integration.
2. Ensure the battery's height is suitable for the vehicle. An overly tall battery risks shorting out under the bonnet or seat and may damage the bonnet.
3. A best practice is to place the old and new batteries side by side. Compare them for polarity, hold-downs, and performance-levels. Focus on the hold-downs necessary for vehicle security.
4. Ensure the battery is both clean and dry to avoid any installation issues.
5. Confirm that the vent-plugs or manifolds are securely in place, ensuring proper ventilation.
6. Verify the battery's voltage is above 12.40V. If not, proceed to charge it or use an alternative battery exceeding this voltage for optimal performance.
7. At this stage, ensure both terminal caps are securely fitted for safe handling.

Preparing the Vehicle
1. Clear the battery-tray of any items that could potentially harm the battery. A heavy battery placed on a sharp object can be punctured.
2. Ensure all connectors, hold-down clamps, and the tray are pristine and corrosion-free. Use hot water to remove any signs of corrosion instantly. Severe corrosion impacting battery stability or other engine parts should prompt a visit to an authorized distributor.
3. Confirm the correct tension of the alternator drive-belt. Use the vehicle handbook or service manual as a guide.
4. It's advisable to check the vehicle's electrical system, particularly the charging system, to confirm it is functioning optimally. Consult the vehicle handbook or service manual for assistance.

Installing the Battery
1. Install and securely tighten the hold-down clamps, ensuring the battery is stable and immobile. Avoid overtightening.
2. Connect the live-connector to the appropriate battery terminal (typically positive) after removing the terminal cap. Avoid overtightening.
3. Securely connect the earth-connector to the remaining terminal after removing the terminal cap. Avoid overtightening.
4. Place the terminal caps on the old battery that has been removed to prevent potential short-circuits.
5. Refit any vital components onto the brand-new battery, ensuring to transfer elements from the old battery like exhaust tubes, vent-elbows, terminal covers, removable hold-down strips (widgets), and more. This ensures optimal functionality and seamless integration.
6. Although modern polypropylene batteries do not require the application of petroleum-jelly (Vaseline), using it presents no drawbacks and can lightly enhance terminal performance. This practice remains advisable for hard-rubber batteries. Refrain from using grease, as it's not recommended.
7. Gently remove the CMS, ensuring a clean transition and maintaining the battery's pristine condition.
